Instructions for Tapping External and Internal Threads

To make an internal thread, first drill the core hole to the appropriate size. Then clamp the appropriate tap into the tap wrench and oil it with cutting fluid. The tap should be screwed in clockwise under light pressure. After half a turn, turn the tap back to break the chip.

To make an external thread, first measure the diameter of the stud to determine the appropriate thread size. Then file the stud to a conical shape. Insert the die into the die holder and tighten the screw. Place the die straight onto the screw and lubricate with cutting fluid. Turn the die with light pressure on the screw. The die should be turned back from time to time to break the chips. Continue turning until the required thread length is achieved.
